Ann Crittenden's Parenting Advice
Empowering Women and Families
What can we do to help bring up children without putting women down? Here a just a few of the many suggestions Crittenden offers:
For the employers: Create part-time jobs that give equal pay and benefits in proportion to full-time jobs.
For the government: Equalize Social Security earnings for spouses and consider unpaid primary caregivers as part of the labor force by including them in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
For the husbands: When a child is born or adopted, the spouses' earnings legally belong to the family unit – not each individual. This should remain until the children reach adulthood.
For the community: Offer parent education programs, create lending libraries for educational toys and give all parents access to car seats.
