Advice About Cervical Cancer

Actress Marissa Jaret Winokur faced cervical cancer at age 27. Years later, she beat the disease and is speaking up to help other women. "I talk about it because I want people to be proactive," she says. "The sooner you find out that you have cancer the sooner you can take care of it and it won't spread, and you can be cured like me."

Jaret Winokur paired up with Qiagen, the company that developed the test for the primary cause of cervical cancer, the human papillomavirus (HPV), to spread the word that cervical cancer is preventable with routine cervical cancer screenings, including a regular Pap and the HPV test for women 30 and older.

For women facing the diagnosis, Jaret Winokur speaks strong words of hope. "You will get through," she says. "There is life after cancer. There is a lot of life after cancer. I'm a perfect example that there are even babies after cancer!"

Her most important advice: "You really have to go head first at it, and fight it!"
